Competition Heats Up for Women Poker Players as they Compete for the Title of LIPS Grand Champion
Las Vegas, NV — July 18, 2007
The Third Annual LIPS Championship sponsored by Poker School Online is taking place this weekend at the Orleans Casino in Las Vegas during the Orleans Open series of events. Hundreds of women from all over America look forward to this weekend’s events. “We are happy to be partnering with the women of LIPS Tour. The LIPS Championship will be a special feature in our tournament series.” Said Garret Okahara, Director of Poker Operations of the Orleans Casino.
LIPS Champion’s from across the country, won their seats into the LIPS Championship either through one day LIPS tournament events, or through the Ladies Poker Night League program where women can form their own leagues and send a champion to the main event representing their group. “On the eve of the Championship weekend, the winners will have their own event. First a Champion’s Dinner to celebrate, then a Champion’s only tournament to see who the “Best of the Best” is. All these women will still compete in the open main event on Sunday. It’s going to be fabulous!” Said Lupe Soto, Founder of Ladies International Poker Series.
Defending her title this year is Jeanne West of Reno Nevada, who beat out over two hundred women last year to grab the title of LIPS Grand Champion. “I can’t wait to play! I want to defend my title and take it down again!” Said Jeanne.
The Championship Weekend will kick off with a warm up “H.O.E” event on Saturday July 21st, $50 + $15 with one $15 rebuy, and one $5 add on. The Championship event is Sunday July 22nd at noon, with a $300 + $30 buy in.
A special feature this year is the “Go Girl Energy Drink Challenge”. It is a fund raising event for Breast Cancer Angels, a foundation who provides services for women living with breast cancer without insurance. Winners will be challenged to take the challenge and donate 5% of their winnings to Breast Cancer Angels. “Go Girl is excited to be part of LIPS fundraising efforts. We understand a poker players need to stay sharp and alert and believe Go Girl fits right in as a winning formula for women poker players. Our company is also committed to supporting breast cancer research.” Said Shelley Deary, Go Girl Director of Marketing.
Even the Pro Poker Players have joined the cause by autographing photo poker chips which will be available for silent auction at the Championship. Players like Chris Ferguson, Phil Gordon, Phil Helmuth, Kathy Liebert, Clonie Gowan, Tom McEvoy, Marsha Waggoner, Kenna James, Susie Isaacs, Scotty Ngyuen, Mike Matasow, Lyle Berman, Liz Liu and more!
